Natural VS Lab Grown Diamonds
Lab grown diamonds are as real as diamonds mined from the earth. They are identical in every way, except that they are grown in a lab. They have the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as mined diamonds and exhibit the same brilliance, scintillation and sparkle and offer an exceptional value when compared with the same quality of earth mined diamonds.
Like naturally mined diamonds the process for lab grown diamonds starts by putting carbon under extreme heat and pressure. Labs take a single carbon seed and take it through a process that mimics the earths natural process. The carbon seed slowly forms into a crystalline structure.
Advantages:
• Eco Friendly – They do not disturb any land surfaces. In addition they do not produce any mineral waste.
• Ethically Sourced – They are conflict free. Diamond miners are never exploited during the making of lab grown diamonds.
• Competitively Priced – They are cheaper and more accessible than mined diamonds.
Disadvantages:
• Rarity – Because they are manufactured, they can be mass produced.
• Value – They are fairly new to the jewelry industry, their long term value is not yet settled. The uncertainty of their value makes their resale value questionable.
